Droom Dit is a Dutch band that I have been following for a while. I found them through the Popronde, which is a traveling festival for upcoming talent, held every year from September to November. Each weekend, bands play in a different city throughout the Netherlands.
I was so mesmerized by their lyrics that I cannot let this band go, I have posted about them a couple of times. The song "Ik Ben Het Even Kwijt" (translation: "I forgot it momentarily") was the song of the week in 2024. I also wrote a review about their second EP "Of Het Terugkomt" which came out on 16th of February 2024.
Droom Dit has been working on their debut album ever since and the debut is finally here. The release show was in Burgerweeshuis, Deventer on Deventer, 7 February 2025, on the same day the album "Het Hart Bestaat Niet En De Rest Ook Niet" was released. The album name translates to "The heart does not exist, and neither does the rest". An album review is still to go live on the blog. I have listened to the album and it is full of fantastic music, so check it out, even though you cannot understand Dutch it is worth your time. Today, though you can start your exploration as "De Grens Tussen Ons" (translation: "The Boundary Between You And Me") is Case's song of the week.
Since you have probably not heard of this band as an English reader of this blog, I would like to tell you a bit more about the band before I tell you about the song of the week. Droom Dit's songs will fit into the pop genre, it is being described as Synthpop. If the name was not a dead giveaway, the band songs are in Dutch. The lyrics are about sex, violence, love and other heartbreaks. Their music is raw and pure, straight from the heart.
This band hits like a ton of bricks every time. The music is so powerful, and the lyrics are the cherry on top. They know exactly how to convey their feelings throughout their music. To the frontman of the band Sam de Laat, the music is a way to process and vent his feelings. The way the lyrics are composed is almost poetic.
"De Grens Tussen Ons" is greasy, danceable, and pure. It shows how diverse the band is, giving us yet another flavour to try. The bass rumbles through you, the vocals hypnotize you into a dancing frenzy. This song demands you to move your body; sitting still is not an option. The music video is a little eccentric, a futuristic yet DIY kind of feel. A camper floating through space, going nowhere in particular, is kind of fitting with the overall feel of the song.
The band has grown in these last two years, this is evident in this song and also in the debut album. You can hear that in this song, where there is a beautiful interplay of voices, which seamlessly flow into each other. A raw diamond that has been beautifully polished.
The band just finished their album tour to many venues in the Netherlands. Hopefully, many more festivals will follow for this band, because that is what they deserve. In any case, they are confirmed for Best Kept Secret. Below are the dates and the link to the ticket information, as you are used to from me, no affiliate links.
13,14,15 June 2025: Best Kept Secret, Hilvarenbeek
