Case's Song of the Week: Luke Winslow-King - Graveyard Blues

Yesterday no Gigs Weekly, like I always share on Mondays, and this had a reason, as yesterday, my grandmother passed away. Suddenly she was not with us anymore, so today I will tell you a little bit about my grandmother. As my grandmother too loved music, in the past she used to do make up for musicals, operettas and opera's. I remember that I often went to see these productions with my grandfather, who has passed away a couple of year ago. This way I have seen a lot of musicals, opera's and operettas. One of my favorites being Orpheus in the Underworld, but that might have just been because I helped my grandmother do the make up for this one.

We also listened to the Sound of Music on the record player endlessly, and later on me and my sister use to play out the entire Cats musical for my grandparents. We have grown up in a musical home. Grandma definitely did not stay behind, as she did also enjoy some of the newer music. For example she really liked a local rapper, who is famous in the Netherlands, called Typhoon. And also DeWolff, which is one of my favorite bands she was familiar with. Where she found all this new music you might wonder? Well, there is this Dutch show, which is kind of like a the Tonight show, it is called De Wereld Draait Door, where many new bands and artist were introduced.

Sometimes my grandmother wanted to spend some more time with us, and go out. So one time I decided to take grandma to a concert. I bought 2 tickets to Luke Winslow-King who would be playing at the Burgerweeshuis venue in Deventer. So there we went on a little road trip to Deventer, in the car my grandmother was joking that she was going to find me a new boyfriend at the show.

When we arrived I arranged a stool for my grandmother and put it in front of the stage so she could see the show. She very much enjoyed the show. At a certain point my grandmother whispered to me, that guy over there is checking me out. We have had fun with this little inside joke for the entire night. After the show we talked with Luke himself and he thought it was cool that I took my grandmother to the show. Luke was a really nice guy.

This week Luke Winslow-King is song of the week, in memory of my grandmother.

"Treasure those precious moments, you never know when it will be too late."

RIP oma, now you can be with opi again.
